Intramural Staff Information



Dale.jpg Dale Ramsay, CRSS, Director, Intramural Sports. BS in Physical Education from Keene State College in 1980 and MAT in Physical Education from University of Louisville in 1982. Dale is an active NCAA and National Federation basketball official working four collegiate conferences. He was selected to officiate the 1996 Kentucky High School State Championships and 2000 All A Classic. In addition Dale was awarded the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Most Outstanding Official award for basketball in 2006. Dale was Assistant Director at the University of Louisville from 1982 to 1983 prior to becoming Director. Dale also serves as an instructor in the School of Education, Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Studies.

Smitty.jpg John Smith, CRSS Assistant Director, Memberships, Marketing, Promotions, Technology, Safety. BS in Recreation Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 1979 and MS in Recreation Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in 1980. John is a National Federation Football official who was selected to work the 2000 Kentucky State Championship game. He is also a NCAA Volleyball official, serves as Supervisor of Officials for Fast Pitch Softball and Volleyball for over 40 area high schools. In 2006 John was awarded the Outstanding Sports Supervisor award from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and in 1995 was awarded the Most Outstanding Volleyball Official award from the same KHSAA. John is a certified instructor in CPR and First Aid, AED Use and Preventing Disease Transmission for the American Red Cross. Prior to coming to UofL in 1987 John was the Assistant Director of Athletics for the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government. John received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Eastern Kentucky University in 1995.

hat.jpg David Hatfield, Assistant Director, Facility Operations. BS in Recreation Education from University of Louisville in 1985, MAT in Physical Education from University of Louisville in 1988. Former standout football player for the Cardinals, David lead the team in receptions and yards as well as being one of the nations top ten receivers his senior year. Managed a private health and fitness club for two years prior to returning to the Intramural Department. Outside interests include golf and running.

dr.jpgDavid Rice, Coordinator of Facility Operations and Sport Clubs. David returns to the University of Louisville, where he received his bachelor's degree in English in 1997, after serving as a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina and Western Kentucky University, where he earned his master's degree in Recreation in 1999. He then served as the Intramural Coordinator at Georgia College and State University. David was an undergraduate assistant for the Intramural Department at UofL prior to his graduate and professional positions. He will assist with facility operations as well as direct the club sport program. David is an avid sports fan with a particular interest in golf.

debby1.jpg Debby Woodall, CRSS, Assistant Director, HSC Fitness Center and Fitness/Wellness Programs. BS in Sports Administration from University of Louisville in 1991 and MS in Physical Education with an emphasis in Fitness/Wellness from University of Louisville in 1994. Debby served as a graduate assistant in the Intramural Sports Department from 1992 to 1994. She is also a certified Fitness Specialist through the YMCA and AFAA.

tank.jpgDale Young, Intramural Coordinator.BS in Recreation from Western Kentucky University in 2001 and MS from WKU in 2003. Dale comes to UofL from Troy University where he served as the Recreation Coordinator. Prior to that he served as a graduate assistant at WKU where he was in charge of sport clubs and intramural sports. Dale is an active official in several sports who enjoys golf and reading when he's not on a court or field. His position brings him back to his hometown, joining David Hatfield as he becomes the second member of the staff to have graduated from Iroquois High School.

janice.jpg Janice Day, Unit Business Manager. Janice oversees the business, financial and personnel matters of the Department of Intramural and Recreational Sports. She attended the University of Louisville and is a graduate of the University Business Administration Certification Program. She has enjoyed working for the university in several different departments for the past 17 years. Her outside interests include planning, design and renovating older homes, skiing and travel.

roger.jpg Roger Metry, Program Assistant. Roger returns to the Intramural Department in a full-time role after serving as a temporary staff member on two separate occasions. Roger received the Intramural Department Service Award in 2003 for his outstanding customer service and professional attitude in working with the many students, faculty, staff and general public that he deals with on a daily basis. He is a former Apple Computer dealer and also enjoyed a career in the Kentucky State government. He holds a BA in Political Science and a MS in Community Development from the University of Louisville. Roger enjoys sports and looks forward to continuing his work with the entire university community.

fank.jpg Frank Nuxoll, Facility Supervisor, Swain Student Activities Center. BS in Physical Education from University of Louisville in 1988. An active volleyball enthusiast, playing in numerous leagues and tournaments each year. Frank is also an NCAA Volleyball Official working in several midwest conferences and served as an NCAA Officials Evaluator for the first two rounds of the 1996 National Championships.

barry.jpg Jerry Barry, Facility Supervisor, Humana Gym. Army Vietnam Veteran, Jerry is active in many community services in a volunteer role. He has been honored as the University of Louisville Bell Award Winner, which is a prestigious award given by the City of Louisville for outstanding volunteer involvement. Jerry works through the American Legion for many philanthropic projects, including the WHAS Crusade for Children and has been highly involved with Camp KYSOC, an Easter Seals camp for children.

greg.jpg Greg Johnson, Facility Supervisor. Greg comes to the Intramural Department after 6 years in the university's Physical Plant where he was in charge of the Swain Student Activities Center. Greg was honored with a special award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the physical condition of the SAC at the 2000 Intramural Awards Ceremony. Greg has two sons, Gregory and Malik. Greg enjoys weight training and conditioning in his free time. He is active in a number of volunteer roles through his church, St. Johns AME.

bake.jpg Garry Baker, Facility Supervisor, Swain Student Activities Center. Pursuing BS in Personnel and Business Administration from University of Louisville. Garry came to the Intramural Department by way of the Jefferson County Government where he was Supervisor in the Government Center. He has been on staff since in 1990.

richeson.jpg Michael Richeson, Facility Supervisor, Swain Student Activities Center & Crawford Gym. BA in Political Science from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1984. Also an instructor at Iroquois Middle School. Michael is a long time basketball enthusiast who has played, coached and officiated at the high school level.
