Participate in the UofL Service Learning Program

 The Service Learning Program encourages and supports students, faculty and staff who are interested in community service opportunities and who want to combine their academic studies with community service.

We provide the following services:

• Walk-In Volunteer Resource Center: provides information on local non-profits agencies in need of volunteers.
• America Reads Tutoring Program: UofL students tutor in local elementary schools and after-school programs. They get paid as federal work-study students or volunteer on their own time.
• Americorps Bonner Leader Program: UofL students may apply to this Americorp funded program in which they commit to completing 300 hours of service in a calendar year and earn a $1000 stipend upon completion.
• “Best Practices” Training for Recognized Student Organizations: Assist RSOs in all aspects of community service, including finding sites, planning a project, and being an effective volunteer. Provide training for students who are working with children and youth as tutors or mentors.
• Alternative Spring Break Program: The Service Learning Program and the Honors program work together to provide selected students with an opportunity to explore a social, educational, or environmental issue by performing service at a non-profit agency out of state.
• Service Learning Support for Faculty: Provide information on all aspects of combining academic studies with community service, including site placement, project ideas, and evaluation options.
• Service Learning Resource Library: Contains books, articles, and video about Service Learning practices in Higher Education.
